87.2ºS, 24.1km covered
“Actually quite fun in a type 2 kind of way.”
Or; Antarctica has finally got tough enough for Lucy to enjoy it. A day of sastrugi in a white-out, so a day of manhandling the pulk over lumps of ice that you can’t see. A major upper body and strength workout, which is probably why Lucy enjoyed it.
The gang crossed 87ºS early on in the day, and given conditions, this is a great result. I’m sure the novelty of sastrugi will wane soon, but this is exactly the challenge Lucy was expecting.
The soloists up ahead have been reporting a good few days of sastrugi now, so this will likely be the routine for the next week or so. Another day of big vertical gain too, above 2200m now.
